Shoshin – A word used in Zen Buddhism meaning “beginners mind”. It describes an attitude of openness, eagerness and lack of preconception when studying a subject, even when studying at an advanced level.
We’ve experienced markets at an elevated level for decades, and yet, our approach is still one of Shoshin. We make a concerted effort to show investors that it’s not only ok to think different about investing, frequently, there are benefits to doing so. Especially when it comes to your financial future.
Having said that, we are aware that thinking “different”, doesn’t instantly mean “better”. As with many things in life, there are times we do things simply because it’s how we’ve been taught, often assuming those doing the teaching are correct. What if they’re not, what if your thoughts have been influenced by your teachers cognitive biases or an industry narrative that may not benefit you as much as you believe it to?
We say it often, there is likely more to the investing story then the one you’ve likely been sold over your investing years. We welcome you to hear the Other Side of the story… Welcome to Other Side Asset Management.
